In 2024, Akamai experienced growth in our security and compute solutions. This increase was primarily the result of continued growth in sales of our security and compute solutions and the acquisition of Linode in March 2022 which contributed to the growth in our compute solutions. 

Throughout 2024, we expanded Akamai's compute platform to span 41 data centers in 36 locations. This includes upgrades to 5 existing data centers and the introduction of 11 data centers. The locations of these data centers include Denver, Colorado; Houston, Texas; Querétaro, Mexico; Bogotá, Colombia; Santiago, Chile; Marseille, France; Hamburg, Germany; Johannesburg, South Africa; Auckland, New Zealand; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; and Melbourne, Australia. 

As a result of the expansion and growth of our security and compute solutions, this intensity metric was affected. 

As we anticipate continued growth for our global platform, and in particular our compute services, in the coming years, we are taking a comprehensive approach to evaluating and addressing any potential environmental impact and power consumption concerns. With Akamai Cloud Computing now integrated into our sustainability goals, we have established strategies with an emissions-first approach that aligns with our commitment to environmental sustainability while supporting the growth of this new business segment.
